Here are some ideas on how to make a timeline for your upcoming move
8 weeks before the move
- Get organized: set aside a folder or file where you can put all your documents related to the move. Take one notebook as a moving notebook for all your notes.
- Start sorting: decide what to leave, discard, or donate. If you move to another place, be aggressive in making decisions.
- Explore moving companies: go online to check out moving companies with positive reviews. Ask friends and family if they have any links to moving companies in Texas. Spend a week or two on research. You are not in a hurry.
7 weeks before the move
- Get materials: Buy packing materials: boxes, tape, markers, and bubble wrap.
- Plan a garage sale. As you browse through your belongings, you will find things that you don’t want to move. That is the perfect time to lighten your load. In the process, you make a few bucks on a garage sale to spend on transportation costs.
6 weeks before the move
- Notify schools: if you have children, inform the staff of their schools about the impending relocation. Get copies of your school documents and sign up for the registration process at schools near your new place of residence.
- Medical records: consult a doctor to get copies of your family's medical records.
5 weeks before the move
- Schedule a moving company: thanks to your research, you are ready to choose Fort Worth movers. Choose a company you are sure of and confirm the date, time, and details of your move.
4 weeks before the move
- Start collecting non-basic necessities: start collecting things you don’t need right now. Be sure to label the boxes.
- Public Utilities Alert: Start the process of closing utilities in your current location and set up utilities in your new place of residence.
- Tell your landlord: if you move out of rent, inform your landlord. Find out when you can return your safety deposit.
3 weeks before the move
- Develop your food situation: use products that you do not want to move. Plan ahead so that by the day of your move you have nothing left in your freezer. The same goes for your pantry. Make a plan for the consumption of all that is already open.
- Pets and plants. Prepare pets for moving and for your new home. Same goes for your plants.
- Change your address: Fill out the address change form on the USPS website. Notify banks and credit card companies of your new address.
- Transfer Insurance: If your current home is covered, contact your agent to transfer the policy to your new home.
- Take care of your car: Get your car serviced, especially if you go on a long distance move. Check with your insurance company about transferring your policy.
2 weeks before the move
- Do some serious packing: now is the time to start collecting almost everything that is left in your house. Again, do not forget to mark everything to ensure a smooth transition to the new location.
- Coordinate your values: if you have jewelry, family heirlooms, or other valuable items, separate them from the main move. You do not want valuable items to be mixed with your other packed items. Prepare your valuables for the move and pack them carefully. Keep them in a safe place so that you can transport them yourself.
- Make a clean move: if your new place needs a thorough cleaning, take care to clean it before you arrive.
- At your disposal: Properly dispose of any items that cannot be moved, such as cleaning materials, propane or paint.
1 week before moving
- Confirm and confirm again: Check with your engine to confirm the time and date of the move.
- Take the essentials box with you: prepare a box with the items that you need, right in the new place. Take it with you. Do not load it on the truck.
1 day before moving
- Keep important documents at hand: always carry with you all the documents related to the move.
- Defrost and clean: empty fridge and freezer. Check your closets and pantry for open products.
Moving day
- Work with your movers: help your movers, immediately finding fragile or large items. Be there when movers load your stuff into the truck. You will be responsible for checking that they have loaded everything, so it’s very important that you are there to coordinate and answer questions. Sign the bill of lading if you are sure that everything is accounted for.
- Last check: before the movers leave, do a final inspection of your house to make sure nothing is left behind.
